The famous Macedonian director will present his film in Sofia and will receive the special Sofia Film Festival award on September 25th at the Sofia Summer Fest platform
Milcho Manchevski's latest film, "Willow", traces women's struggles with tradition, with notions of loyalty, with the control exercised over their bodies, with problems such as pregnancy and adoption. Their goal is not to change the world or the conservative society they are living in, but their personal cause - to become mothers, turns them into incredible heroines.
The three bittersweet stories, one medieval and two modern, are mirror-image and contrast with each other, exploring the themes of love, trust and motherhood. The threads of the individual segments are intertwined in a whole through delicate, repetitive motifs.
In this visually lavish film, the acting presence of the young star Sara Klimoska, Natalija Teodosieva, Nenad Nacev, as well as the exceptional Kamka Tocinovski ("Punk's not dead") is remarkable and captivates the audience.
"Willow" is a co-production of Northern Macedonia, Hungary, Belgium and Albania.
Milcho Manchevski was born in 1959 in Skopje; graduated in film and photography from the University of Southern Illinois, USA. Before devoting himself to cinema, he made experimental films, as well as music videos for world-famous artists. After being nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Lion in Venice in 1994, his masterpiece "Before the Rain" entered the "Best 1000 Movies of All Time" list, winning another 30 awards at international festivals. Shortly after the worldwide success of "Before the Rain", Milcho Manchevski moved to New York, where he taught directing at the Faculty of Arts, Film and Television at New York University. The audience of Sofia Film Festival also knows his films - "Dust" (2001), "Shadows" (2007) and "Mothers" (2010), co-productions with Bulgarian participation, as well as "Bikini Moon" (2017), most of which were presented personally by the director.
We're waiting for the meeting with Milcho Manchevski and his new film "Willow" at the 24th Sofia Film Festival in September!
The official opening of the festival is on September 25 from 7:30 PM on the platform Sofia Summer Fest.
On the same day, at 6.30 pm, another screening of the film "Willow" will take place in the Lumiere Lidl cinema, for which all tickets purchased for the screening of the film in March at the Cinema House will be valid, after re-validation at the box-office!
