Levan Koguashvili's „Brighton 4th“ awarded for best film, best actor and best screenplay at the anniversary 20-th international film festival in Tibeca, New York

Triumph with Bulgarian co-production participation in Tribeca!

Brighton 4th“ made by the Georgian director Levan Koguashvili won three prizes at anniversary 20-th international film festival in Tibeca, founded by Robert de Niro. The film participated in the international competition and won three prizes - awards for best film, best actor (Levan Tediashvili) and best screenplay (Boris Frumin and Levan Koguashvili)!

The film stars Georgian wrestling legend Levan Tediashvili, a two-time Olympic and five-time freestyle world champion. His first world title was from Sofia in 1971. For his first role in cinema Tediashvili was awarded the prize for best actor in Tribeca. Also in the roles are Georgi Tabidze and Nadya Mikhalkova. The script of the film was created by Boris Frumin with the participation of Levan Koguashvili. Behind the camera is Hollywood DOP Phedon Papamichael. Bulgarian masters are also the designer of the costumes Eka Bichinashvili and the sound designer Svetlozar Georgiev.

Brighton 4th“ is a co-production between Georgia, Russia, Bulgaria, Monaco and USA, with the support of Bulgarian National Film Center. Producer on the Bulgarian side is Art Fest (Stefan Kitanov and Mira Staleva).

The film is the story of former wrestling champion Kakhi whose devotion to his family leads him on a journey from his home in Tbilisi to visit his son Soso in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. There he finds him living in a shabby boarding house populated by a colorful group of fellow Georgian immigrants. Soso is not studying medicine, as Kakhi believed, but is working for a moving company to repay a gambling debt to a local mob boss. Kakhi sets his mind to helping his son, leading to situations as often comic as they are dire.

Years ago, Levan Koguashvili triumphed at the Sofia International Film Festival with 3 awards for his film „Blind Dates, including „Sofia - City of Film award for best film.

This September, the director will return to Sofia to open the special edition of the 25th anniversary Sofia International Film Festival and to present his latest film in front of the Bulgarian audience!
