"Flow" Wins the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film - Bulgarian audiences will see it for the first time at Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture during the gala screening on the night of the awards at the 29th Sofia Film Fest

We are thrilled to present the new film by Latvian artist-director Gints Zilbalodis, Flow, which just hours ago won one of its two Oscar nominations! The film premiered in the “Un Certain Regard” section at the Cannes Film Festival, it was showcased at dozens of festivals worldwide, and has now added an Oscar for Best Animated Feature to its well-deserved accolades, including the Golden Globe and César for Best Animated Feature, four awards from the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, two BAFTA nominations, a nomination for the European Audience Award LUX, and an Oscar nomination for Best International Feature Film.

We are also excited to welcome a special guest at the 29th Sofia International Film Festival—Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof, who will personally present his Oscar-nominated film The Seed of the Sacred Fig and will hold a FIPRESCI masterclass in Sofia.

Congratulations to the team behind the Oscar-nominated short film The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent, directed by Nebojša Slijepčević — a co-production with significant Bulgarian involvement, with Bulgarian producer Katya Trichkova.

The Sofia International Film Festival extends special congratulations to Sean Baker, a friend of the festival who visited Sofia in 2018. At the 97th Academy Awards, Baker triumphed with Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Editing—all personally crafted by him—for his latest film Anora. The young actress in the film, Mikey Madison, also won an Oscar for Best Actress. Congratulations on this incredible achievement! We hope to see Sean Baker as a guest at the festival in the coming years!

The Oscar-winning animated feature Flow will have its gala premiere in Sofia on March 22, right after the awards ceremony at the 29th Sofia Film Fest, in Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture. The film will also have a special screening for visually impaired audiences, made possible by Andarta Studio and supported by Grand Optics, Joy Optics, and Optika.bg, on March 27 at 3:00 PM at Euro Cinema.
