Farewell to one of the great masters of world cinema - Jirí Menzel, a good friend of Bulgaria, Sofia and Sofia Film Festival.
The Oscar-winning Czech director and part of the famous New Wave in Czechoslovak cinema has been recognized as one of the most significant masters of twentieth-century comedy.
Mr. Menzel's first visit to the Cinema House in Sofia was in the mid-1990s, when a a special comedy festival was organized and he personally presented his film "Life and Extraordinary Adventures of Private Ivan Chonkin".
In 2007, Jirí Menzel received the Sofia Award for his contribution to the world of cinema and introduced us to "I Served the King of England", and in 2014 he presented his latest film "The Don Juans" at the Lumiere Cinema.
Thank you, pan Menzel!
