THE GENTLEMAN AND THE CHEESE MERCHANTS GENTLEMEN Bulgaria, 2026, 54 min, color, documentary

The film The Gentleman and the Gentlemen Cheese Merchants tells the story of the great Bulgarian theatre director and pedagogue Nikolay Georgiev—the odd bird of Bulgarian theatre, a rebel and an ascetic who refused to accept the constraints of the conventional stage. He transformed the stage into a laboratory of freedom, discipline, and experimentation. He founded the Bim-Bom University Theatre in 1968, Theatre 4+4 in 1978, and in the 1990s the Table Theatre, Theatre Studio 4XS, and the First Bulgarian Women’s Theatre, followed after 2000 by the Alma Alter Theatre Laboratory.
