Ruth, a brave police investigator, suspects a well-known and influential lawyer, Josh Brown, of drugging and sexually assaulting a young woman named Anna. Ruth is determined to have Brown confront his victim and runs into opposition from her superior. At the same time, Leoni, Ruth's partner, begs Ruth to seek professional help to treat her eating disorder. Ruth is battling both Brown and the demons of her past. When the investigation meets her trauma, the film turns toward its unexpected ending.
