Most of the titles in the 23rd Sofia Film Fest’s International Competition are confirmed – two of them are Bulgarian films

Lachezar Avramov’s “A Picture with Yuki” and Dragomir Sholev’s “The Pig” are the Bulgarian titles in the 23rd Sofia Film Fest’s International Competition. They will be competing for the Grand Prix “Sofia – City of Film” Prize, provided by Sofia Municipality. It will be awarded to a representative of the winning film on March 16 at the Awards Ceremony.


"THE WILD PEAR TREE" by Nuri Bilge Ceylan will be the closing film of the main 23rd Sofia Film Fest's programme

Nury Bilge Ceylan's eighth full-length film - "The Wild Pear Tree", co-production between Turkey, France, Germany, Bulgaria (RFF International), Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Sweden, had its premiere in the main competition of Cannes 2018 and it was warmly accepted from audiences and critics. The international press was unanimous with the excitement from this "mesmerizing verbal fugue", created by "astonishingly complex spoken recitatives that weave philosophy, religious tradition, and ethics together". The "bad boy" of French cinema François Ozon, will please the Bulgarian audience with his new feature film - the erotic psycho thriller "Double Lover", premiered at the Cannes 2017

Fans of one of the most diligent filmmakers in French cinema (who over the past 20 years has made 18 films, including hits such as "5x2", "Swimming pool", "Time to Leave", "8 Women", "Trophy Wife /Potiche/", "17th", "Franz"), who are true to the specific aesthetic style he has imposed in his films, are already filled with anticipation for the widely discussed erotic drama François Ozon offers in his "Double Lover /L'Amant double/"


The first six film titles from the Balkan competition at the 22nd Sofia Film Fest are already confirmed

"Ága" by Milko Lazarov will close the official main programme of BERLINALE 2018 and will open the 22nd SOFIA International Film Festival

"Ága" will officially open the 22nd edition of Sofia Film Fest on March 7th, Hall 1 at the National Palace of Culture. Presented as a project with the working title "Nanook" at Sofia Meetings in 2014, where it was awarded by the Mediterranean Film Institute, Synchro Film, Video & Audio, Vienna, also awarded as a project with the prestigious award "Krzysztof Keslovski" from ScriptEast, at Cannes
